Defense Point Security is currently seeking a Network Security Engineer in Chantilly, VA.

Network Security Engineer Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, configuration, tuning, and administration of a Cisco based data communications network and network security devices, including but not limited to ESA, WSA, Stealthwatch, AMP and Firepower
  • Implement network security best practices; develop and maintain Acceptable Use Policy for IP Network, Firewall and Filtering policies
  • Perform configuration, tuning and scripting of Microsoft server platforms, including Active Directory
  • Perform analysis on event monitoring of network security solutions, and recommend and implement configuration changes to the SIEM (Splunk and/or FortiSIEM)
  • Ensure existing network infrastructure and configuration standards are adhered to when delivering projects
  • Deploy and document changes in accordance with enterprise project management lifecycle and change management processes
  • Take initiative to proactively identify solutions to potential network issues / embrace network simplification and strengthened security
  • Collaborate on problem management and root cause analysis discussions with fellow network engineers, security engineers and analysts
  • Draft technical requirements, configuration management, and planning documentation
  • Support the Security Impact Analysis (SIA), an analysis that is conducted by the security team to review the extent to which changes to the information system will affect the security state of the system
  • Participate in testing and planning of operational network segmentation
  • Perform implementation of security and compliance-based use cases based on the NIST 800-53 Rev4 security controls

Network Security Engineer Job Qualifications:

  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to our Federal contractual obligation
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience with all phases of network engineering, Incident Response, Security Engineering, and Intrusion Detection on an operational network
  • Broad experience with data communication technologies, including MPLS, Ethernet, VoIP, MPLS, Routing, SNMP, SDN, Domain Name Service policies and Address management
  • Ability to understand and break down complex networks with minimum supervision
  • CCNA, MCSE and other similar industry certifications

Network Security Engineer Preferred Qualifications:

  • GCIH, GSEC, GISP or similar industry certification
