DPS is currently seeking a candidate to fulfill a role as a Splunk Engineer. In Washington D.C.

The candidate must be well versed in Splunk technology and implementation best practices and have in depth knowledge in the variety of architectural variations of the Splunk product. This includes Splunk scalability, capacity planning, distributed setup, Search Head Clustering, Indexer Clustering, and performance specifications. The candidate must have experience performing operations and maintenance on large Splunk instances. Past experience working with Splunk Enterprise Security and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the ES app is preferred. Additional ES training can be provided as needed to support the implementation of ES application tuning, content development, and generation of notable events.

Splunk Engineer Job Responsibilities:

  • Engineering, design, and implementation efforts
  • Gather use cases from the customer and configure and tune their deployment to match requirements
  • Splunk scalability, capacity planning, distributed setup, Search Head Clustering, Index Clustering, and performance specifications
  • Document configuration standards, policies, and procedures for operating, managing and ensuring the security of the Splunk infrastructure.
  • Drive objectives for project while maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Documentation and tracking of tasks and generation of deliverables on a daily and weekly basis

Splunk Engineer Job Qualifications:

  • IT lingo and be capable of discussing systems design and architecture intelligently.
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux platforms is required and additional hands on experience with appliances is a plus.
  • A solid foundation understanding of networking principals, security best practices and systems administration is preferred.
  • Experience with automation tools, storage technologies, platform administration on Linux and Windows.

Splunk Engineer Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sec+/Net+/CISSP or other related certifications
  • Hands on experience with Enterprise Applications
  • Hands on experience with Security Tools such as IDS/IPS, Anti-virus, Endpoint Management
  • Hands on experience with Virtualization Technology such as VMWare or Virtualbox.
  • Hands on experience with Storage Technology such as NetApp or EMC.
  • Scripting/Programming experience in Python, Perl, Powershell or Bash.
  • Active Directory
  • Three tiered application model
  • Firewalls and internet proxy devices
  • Security monitoring practices
  • Unix or Linux shell environments
  • Security signature generation methods and techniques
  • Event flows (i.e. Syslog)
  • IDS (i.e. Enterasys Dragon, SourceFire, Snort, McAfee Intrushield IPS)
  • Security Information Event Management (SIEM)
  • Log management tools (i.e. Splunk)
  • Vulnerability assessment tools
  • Network analysis / sniffer tools
  • Patch management tools
  • Anti-Virus (i.e. Mcafee ePO HBSS / Symantec SEP)
  • Experience working in a large government or corporate enterprise environment.
  • Security certification such as: CISSP, SANS GIAC, Security+, Network+, Linux+, MCSE, RHCE or CCNA-Security
  • Experience with many of today's security tool sets (IPS/IDS, AV, Firewalls, Switches, etc) is a plus.
  • Experience with Splunk premium apps such as IT Service Intelligence (ITSI), and VMware is also a plus.
